Meet Marta Lucia: A Strong Mother

DSC_0007With Mother’s Day right around the corner we wanted to thank the women who work at the plant where our snacks are made. They employ mostly women, many of them mothers. It’s thanks to these women, who carefully hand peel and package our snacks that you’re able to enjoy them here. We would love for you to meet all of them but for this occasion we spoke to Marta Lucia Montoya Perez, a 49-year-old mom of five. Her eldest passed away; the other four range in age from 17 to 32.

¿Where are you from?

I was born in Belen de Umbria, Risalda, but I was raised in Calcedonia, Valle del Cauca

¿What is your job at the plant?

I do a little bit of everything … I work in maintenance and production. In production, I take part in frying, peeling, packing and selection because we’re constantly rotating through the various jobs in the process.

¿How long have you worked there?

About six years and I’ve seen the plant grow so much during that time.

¿What do you love most about your job?

I like everything. Wherever I’m placed, I’ll happily work … like right now I’m washing baskets so I’ll do whatever I’m asked.

¿What does being a mother mean to you?

To me, being a mom es a source of pride. A mom’s duty is to be by her children’s side, educating them well. You have to support them as much as you can even when they’re grown up because they always come to you to tell you about their problems and you try to give them advice. “Mijo, you shouldn’t do that. It’s better if you do this … ” Always, in the good and in the bad. I live with my youngest daughter, Maria Camila, but I always talk to all my kids even if they’re no longer living with me.
